Musical Favourites in 60 Minutes

Budapest Music Center
Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
Artistic Director: István Várdai

Mendelssohn: String Symphony No. 10 in B Minor
Dvořák: Waltzes, Op. 54 Nos. 1 and 4
Mendelssohn: Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20

Dvořák and Mendelssohn’s paths never crossed, as the Czech composer was still a small child when the great master of the late Classical and early Romantic periods passed away. Yet the lyricism of the two geniuses’ string chamber music, with its musical message at once profound and tender, points to kindred temperaments and a similar artistic approach. Their beautiful melodies seem almost to court the listener, while even the faster movements are not so much dramatic as spirited and playful, recalling the combative charm of a lively chase.
With its 60-minute concert without interval on the eve of Valentine’s Day, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra offers an excellent opportunity to prepare for the romantic holiday with music.
