The acoustics of the church and the atmosphere of the sacred space are an inseparable part of the closing concert of the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra’s Musical Favourites in 60 Minutes series. Although the programme does not include works of explicitly sacred music, an arc of mysticism and spiritual elevation runs through it: from Arvo Pärt’s now-classic 20th-century work, through the rococo symphony and concerto by Bach’s son, to the youthful, late-Romantic first opus of Denmark’s best-known composer.
As the title suggests, we are invited to receive the music with our gaze directed skyward, within the magnificent setting of the Inner City Parish Church of Budapest.
